YENIMAHALLE MUNICIPALITY TUBIL

Edition 2023
The hearts of most countries beat in their capitals. From there, arteries and veins carry the pulsating current of all kinds, including cultural ones. No wonder, then, that the YENIMAHALLE MUNICIPALITY TUBIL Children Folk Dance Group, based in Ankara, presents folklore from many regions of Turkey, a vast and no less culturally diverse country.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Group, or rather the Association, as over this period it has been collecting - as originally intended - the nuggets of native folklore, discovering them, compiling them and, above all, preserving them for future generations.

This year the ensemble will bring to the Festival audience the Atrivin province dances, infused with the Black Sea winds, as well as games imbued with the Mediterranean salt. The children from Turkey will dance out joy, love and hope, so characteristic of the folk dances of the Silifke district, but they will also show games from the mountainous province of Burdur, in which we will be able to discern elements associated with good-natured, domestic... goats. Last but not least, we will see Turkish Roma dances, which are actually dances from everywhere - if we are speaking about location - and from the oppressed heart - if we are speaking about the social background and the long-standing situation of the Roma in Turkey.

Thanks to the ensemble from Turkey, the Festival audience will also visit the Kars province to see an interesting “he and she” style drama. The maşuk dance is similar in nature, while one of Turkey's oldest games: güreşçi, will be an interesting brushstroke, completing the picture painted by the performance of the Ankara-based ensemble.
