Compañia de Danza YACHAY WASI was established 10 years ago. Therefore, one might say that one of the events that will make this remarkable anniversary year even more extraordinarily special is the first participation, in the short history of the ensemble, in an international festival.
Although the Ecuadorian children will fly in Nowy Sącz (though not on condor wings) from the very capital of their country, Quito, they will use an invisible thread to link, for these few days in July, the Sącz Beskids with the Andes, as well as Małopolska and the Sącz Region with such provinces as Imbabura and Chimborazo.
Imbabura is home to the very family-oriented Otavalo community, which lives amidst charming mountain landscapes. In the other province, Chimborazo, the centre-stage is taken by the youth, who “are the force moving communities, and without them the processes of identification lose their meaning.” Is this not the very idea of the FESTIVAL OF THE CHILDREN OF MOUNTAINS, but expressed somewhat differently - it is, after all, in the children’s hearts that peace and other phenomena of the adult world have their origins. As well as its future identity.
The muskuy dance is particularly interesting, as it goes back to the Andean philosophy. It is about a picture of the world, where the sun lies at the centre, and which is painted with movement and music. This world stretches between the north and the south, the east and the west - the four cardinal points. This world is filled with four dominant elements: water-earth-fire-air.
Can we finally talk about the archetypes of a child’s world? Perhaps this issue is worth pondering, as we watch the Ecuadorian children spin a top or fly kites.
