POGÓRZAŃSKIE DZIECI

Edition 2023
Sometimes, a children’s folk ensemble is like a child. Especially when it’s only seven years old. And what does a child need most... What is it? Or rather: whom does it need? Of course parents! And Pogórzańskie Dzieci have “parents.” The ensemble from the village of Kąclowa was established, because that’s what the hearts of Ewa and Tadeusz Matuła wished for. And even though they haven't danced and sung long on stages in their own region and beyond, they have now composed a second programme worthy of the FESTIVAL OF THE CHILDREN OF MOUNTAINS.
A children’s ensemble is also like soil cultivation. The seeds sown by the instructors are singing, dancing, music, local dialect... Above the soil of a child’s heart and mind, these seeds sprout into love and respect for the forefathers’ heritage. Such fruition is the mission embraced by Pogórzańskie Dzieci. The ensemble children are actuated by the desire to rescue all that is connected with the rich culture of Pogórze from oblivion. Their culture is like a braid. It is one, though plaited out of a number of cultural strands: the Lachs, the Krakowiaks, the Carpathian Highlanders, and the Dolinians. There are also Lemko and Transcarpathian influences.

And this glorious cultural wealth will be honoured by the programme prepared by the Kąclowa children for this year's edition of the Festival. “On Saturday, after the work’s been done” is a wonderful time. In a while we can think about the leisure of the coming holy day. But for now we will have some fun, before the musical band arrives to play polka suwiec, walczyk, sztajerek and haciok. Now that the beets have been weeded, we can treat ourselves to such games as zając, wygnała mnie babka, chusteczka, chodzi Rózia, sroczka.
