MALI SIEDLECANIE

Edition 2018
The village of Siedlec lies in the commune of Bochnia, on the right bank of the Raba river that runs through  much of the Małopolska Province – from the spring in the Western Beskids to its outlet into the Vistula River close to the northern border of the Małopolska Province. Ethnographically, the commune of Bochnia and Siedlec belong to the region of the Western Krakowiaks, and the subregion is called Nadrabie.
The song and dance ensemble SIEDLECANIE was founded in 1948 on the initiative of the then teachers at the Primary School in Siedlec – Mrs Zofia Zachar and Mr Ludwik Zachar. As they reconstructed and arranged the dances of the Nadrabie people, they participated in the all-Poland Campaign of Musical Folklore Collection organised by the National Institute of Arts in the years 1950-1954. Over the years the artistic achievements of the Nadrabie region were collected and written down in the form of songs, sheet music, recordings and interviews conducted with elderly villagers. With the benefit of this material singing, dancing and musical groups were formed, and the tradition has been passed on from generation to generation to this day. For the seventy years the ensemble has been greatly successful, presenting its folklore on innumerable stages both at contests and competitions in the country and abroad, taking part in festivals and representing the Kraków region. Currently, the ensemble has around 100 members, almost half of whom belong to MALI SIEDLECANIE. Year by year, the ensemble is enjoying ever-increasing popularity, attracting new members.
The programme entitled “As the children were grazing the cattle and Siedlec dwellers were coming back from a fair,” which is going to be presented on the Festival stage will include games (e.g. counting-out rhymes, ciuciubabka, krasoń, ulijanka) and dances (polkas, obereks, cracoviennes, waltzes and chodzony) from the Nadrabie region. A group of older children will perform more difficult dances: krakowiak dances, hop-waltz, razówka, jadownicka.
Ewelina Łubik is the ensemble leader, instructor, choreographer and musical band leader. The band will be playing violins, a diatonic button accordion, a clarinet and a double bass.
