“Mali Magurzanie” Children’s Folk Ensemble was established in 2004 as a beginner group for the “Magurzanie” Folk Ensemble from Łodygowice, which had been in operation since 1984. The village of Łodygowice is located in the Żywiec County, Province of Silesia, and numbers 7,000 inhabitants. The ensemble is affiliated with the Local Community Centre and represents the folklore of the Żywiec Highlanders, whose main dwelling area has been the Żywiec Valley for centuries.
“Mali Magurzanie” is comprised of around 60 dancers aged 8-15, and an 8-piece children’s band. So far the ensemble has performed around 150 times in its entirety, as a carolling group and as a singing group. The ensemble has attended four international festivals abroad – two in the Czech Republic, and two in Slovakia.
On the Festival stage they are going to present a programme entitled “While making wicker baskets” composed of a number of games (e.g. dziad) and dances (e.g. koło, siustany, koń, obyrtka), as well as a medley of shepherd’s songs, a boys’ show with staves, and a medley of tunes performed by the band and soloists (playing the helicon accordions).
The band will entertain the Festival audience with (primary and secondary) violin, double bass and helicon accordion playing.
Krystyna Mikociak is the ensemble leader and choreographer, and Brygida Sordyl is the band leader.
