MAŁE JANCZOWIOKI

Edition 2023
MAŁE JANCZOWIOKI Folk Ensemble was established fifteen years ago. One might say that they have already raised one generation of teenagers aware of their roots, their tradition, and then put them out in the world. Over the years the ensemble has expanded into a “fabulous” number (remember the thieves?!) of 40 children divided into two groups: those below and above seven years of age.
The ensemble performs chiefly during school festivities and picnics organised by the Community Centre in their native commune of Korzenna. They have a special liking for contests and festivals cultivating traditions concerned with this “December day that is surprisingly warm,” that is, carolling contests and Christmas nativity plays.

It is fair to say that MAŁE JANCZOWIOKI are in a way the outcome of “My little yet great Motherland” project, which was implemented in cooperation with the local school in the village of Łyczana in 2008. The children from the village of Janczowa treat the borderland between the ethnographic groups of Lachs and Pogórze Highlanders as the Motherland dearest to their hearts. They focus their artistic attention on songs, dances and traditions native to this region.

The programme prepared by MAŁE JANCZOWIOKI for this year’s edition of the FESTIVAL OF THE CHILDREN OF MOUNTAINS should provide us with the answer - as the title suggests - to the question about what comes out of a meeting of two housewife friends. A lot indeed may... if each one has a group of children to look after. A simple equation of “children plus children” will produce several solutions: such dances as berek, ciuciubabka, mietlorz; and if we add a musical band, the sum total will include warszawianka, szarpok, kowol and poleczka with ditties.
