JAFERCNIOCEK

Edition 2015
JAFERNIOCEK was set up in autumn 2008 at the Branch of the Podhale Inhabitants Association in Ostrowsko - the third oldest Podhale village, which was established by the Cistercian Order in 1260. The name of the ensemble is a dialectal term denoting a berry bush, which can be encountered in the environs in great numbers. The bush - just like the ensemble - holds new fruit together and lets it grow. The JAFERNIOCEK repertoire embraces highland songs, music, dance, play and customs, all included in the ensemble's artistic programmes such as "On the Feast Day of St Michael," "With the Brooms in the Garden," "On a Stony Ground," "Five Hundred Years of the Ostrowsko Parish."

At the Festival the ensemble will present a programme entitled "On the Feast Day of St Florian," which is a reference to the tradition of voluntary fire brigades, the patron saint of which is St Florian. In the vicinity of the river little boys are at play, using old fire-fighting helmets, fire-hoses and a crude mock-up "fire engine." After some girls have come along, they continue merrymaking with a violin-playing boy. In the end a musical band arrives, returning from church. Łukasz Gromada is the ensemble leader, and Iwona Moczarna and Michał Matys act as choreographers.
