"Up and down" this is how that extraordinary evening in the courtyard of SOKÓŁ Małopolska Cultural Centre can be titled. However, the event was officially called “World Music.”
Why “down”? This is because dusk was slowly falling over the venue for this musical feast. “Down” because it all started on the upper balcony, whence came the first sounds, first of Krzysztof Trebunia-Tutka’s trembita and then of the NISKOWIOKI musical band. So “down”!
But also “up”, because from the stage in the courtyard the Colombians were sending their singing upwards, followed by the Hungarians, and finally the Czechs. “Upwards” directed the audience their applause, thoughts, admiration...
And it was there that, throughout the evening, one musical band passed musical notes on to the next musical band, like a relay team of unity in this year’s FESTIVAL OF THE CHILDREN OF MOUNTAINS.
Usually, the musicians are standing on the side. Particularly while the Polish ensemble is having their performance, they are already getting into their role. They are accompanying. They are keeping company.
However, the Friday evening at the SOKÓŁ was their time and theirs only. Here, the musical bands were the most important. The musicians were allowed to play, but they could also sing.
And that is what happened: up and down the instruments passed their notes, and the vocalists - their singing.
An invitation to this relay of the Festival musical bands was extended to guests: the Lemko band KIBORICA and excellent vocalist Konrad Szczęsny.
Today marks the closing of the 31st FESTIVAL OF THE CHILDREN OF MOUNTAINS. But before you get to the Amphitheatre at 6 p.m., call in at SOKÓŁ. Perhaps the sounds of music from all the mountains in the world are still vibrating there...
