Space? Let us start with a detail: Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Primary School is located in Trybsz, which lies in Spiš. Spiš is a historical region situated in the central and inner stretches of the Western Carpathians. As we move outwards, there is Poland and Slovakia, Europe, the world, the Solar System… okay, that will do! And if we consider the participants in this year’s edition of the FESTIVAL, the ŚFABELKI children can be located somewhere between PIĄTKOWIOKI in the Nowy Sącz region and MAŁY HOP CUP in Podhale.
The time recorded by the ensemble from Trybsz may count double. ŚFABELKI are only two years old, but their aim is to carry out an educational project entitled About the school that brings roots back to the countryside. What we have here, then, is history, from which children draw games, play, Spiš dances, fading customs and rites; they learn about them, and then pass them on. Their knowledge of history has enabled ŚFABELKI to win the 35th Spiskie Zwyki, which allowed them to perform at the Festival of Children’s Folk Ensembles in Rabka-Zdrój, from where they went straight on to this year’s FESTIVAL OF THE CHILDREN OF MOUNTAINS, their first international event.
A place somewhere “Przi dródze w Trybsiu” will be the space conjured up on the Nowy Sącz stage by the young artists from the ŚFABELKI ensemble. Sweeping the road before Sunday will provide a pretext for arguing about male-female stereotypes, but above all for having a good time playing the games of labourers, ryftorz, ciymny gacek, kapelusik, barany, playing with brooms, and finally for dancing wałaski, czardasz, kulawy, chodzony, krzyżowa polka and mazur.
