As in the olden days, the Festival of the Children of Mountains is hosted by an ensemble representing the Lach ethnographic group. In the year of Our Lord 2022, during the Festival, this honourable role will be fulfilled by SĄDECZOKI.
As the saying goes: they haven’t fallen off the turnip truck. Owing to their age and experience they can act as worthy hosts. Two years ago the ensemble celebrated four decades of its rich activity, which has comprised numerous concerts performed almost all over Europe, CDs, TV programmes, various festivals, including ones with awards. And indeed, SĄDECZOKI have won quite a number of awards, and brought them to the Youth Palace in Nowy Sącz.
Even though the Sącz Lachs are comfortably nestled between the highlanders in the south and the Krakowiaks in the north, having shaped their own rich folklore over the centuries, the SĄDECZOKI children, who are led by Barbara Sławecka, also draw in their programme interests on musical pieces by the Szczyrzyc Lachs, Łącko Highlanders, and even ethnographic groups from more distant regions, thereby presenting medleys of Lublin and Rzeszów dances, as well as national dances, which after all appears to be justified by the ensemble’s name.
This time, however, we are going to meet the SĄDECZOKI children in a clearing, somewhere in the environs of Nowy Sącz or Stary Sącz. We will be enticed to the place by the smell of mushrooms and raspberries, as well as the sounds of the violins... and then by the sounds of the clarinet, the trumpet and the double bass, all so characteristic of the Lach musical band composition. But above all we will be there to meet a group of joyful children, whose problems boil down to: how to carve a playable pipe, what games to play, and how to drive the geese back home at the right time.
Will they make it? We will see!
