KOCIERZEWIACY Children’s Folk Ensemble comes from Kocierzew Południowy, a commune located in the Łowicz County, Łódź Province. The Łowicz rural areas gave rise to a peculiar and extremely original folklore. Folk artefacts, original architecture, interior decoration, objects of everyday use, dress, music, respect for the tradition and customs have become the factor instrumental in making Łowicz and the nearby villages very widely popular. This great wealth of the Łowicz traditions is cultivated by KOCIERZEWIACY. The ensemble was established at the Community Centre in Boczki in 1988. It acts as a continuator of and worthy successor to the “Boczki Chełmońskie” Song and Dance Folk Ensemble. Since 2006 it has been affiliated with the Community Public Library in Kocierzew Południowy. The name KOCIERZEWIACY has been used by the Children’s Folk Ensemble since 2009. The forty members of the ensemble are children aged 9-15. The ensemble performs in original Łowicz costumes and ones typical of the Kocierzew subregion. Currently, the repertoire of KOCIERZEWIACY includes artistic programmes presenting Łowicz dances, shepherdly scenes including singing, children's dances and games, as well as nativity plays. The ensemble has many times performed in the country and abroad.
